How to Change/Reset Microsoft Account Password
If you're currently signed in:
-
Go to myaccount.microsoft.com.
If you're already signed in, you'll be taken directly to your account page.
-
Look for "Security" or "Security settings."
It's usually somewhere on the main page, but the exact location might vary slightly.
- Find and click "Change password" or "Update password."
-
Verify it's you.
Microsoft might ask you to enter a code or answer some security questions just to make sure it's really you making the change.
-
Type in your new password (twice).
Make it a good one - a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols is best.
- Save your new password.
If you aren't signed in and need to reset:
-
Open your web browser and go to myaccount.microsoft.com.
This will take you to the Microsoft account sign-in page.
-
Enter the email address associated with your Microsoft 365 account and click "Next."
-
Now, since you're not signed in, you'll need to click "Forgot my password." This is below the password entry box.
-
Microsoft will guide you through a process to verify your identity.
They might send a code to your phone or another email, or ask you to answer some security questions.
-
Once you've verified it's you, you can create a new password.
Remember to make it strong with a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols.
- Don't forget to save your new password!
If neither of the steps work, please email helpdesk@9rooftops.com and IT will reset your password for you.
