How To Set Up Your New 9Rooftops iPhone or iPad
Setting Up Your New iPhone or iPad
When you receive a new company-issued iPhone or iPad, there are a few important steps to ensure it’s properly configured, secure, and ready to use. This guide walks you through what to expect and why certain requirements are in place.
Why Enrollment & MDM Management Is Required
All corporate iOS devices are enrolled into our Mobile Device Management (MDM) system. This enrollment process is critical because it:
Keeps devices secure – Ensures that company data stays protected through encryption, passcode enforcement, and remote lock/wipe if needed.
Provides automatic configuration – Wi-Fi, email, VPN, and security settings are automatically applied so you don’t have to set them up manually.
Delivers company apps & resources – MDM provides access to the apps and tools you need to work efficiently.
Ensures compliance – Helps us meet organizational and client security requirements.
Without MDM enrollment, the device would not receive these protections or configurations, and you would not be able to access corporate resources.
Installing Apps with Self Service
Every enrolled iPhone and iPad comes with the Jamf Self Service app preinstalled.
This app acts as your company app store, making it easy to install pre-approved apps without needing an Apple ID.
Default apps required for your role will already be available in Self Service.
Simply open Self Service and tap Install on the apps you need.
Getting Additional Apps
If you need an app that is not listed in Self Service, you have two options:
Contact the Helpdesk – They can review and approve additional app requests.
Use a Personal Apple ID – Log out of your @9rooftops.com Apple ID in the App Store and sign in with a personal Apple ID to download non-work-related apps.
⚠️ Note: The @9rooftops.com Apple ID is managed and cannot be used to make purchases or install personal apps. Please only use a personal Apple ID for apps outside the approved list.
Summary
All iPhones and iPads must be enrolled in MDM for security, compliance, and automatic setup.
Use the Self Service app for installing company-approved apps.
For other apps, either contact the helpdesk or use a personal Apple ID (after logging out of your @9rooftops.com account in the App Store).
By following these steps, your new device will stay secure and fully equipped to support your work.
